Astelco Telescope Domes

The 8 meter composite dome in Mary, Turkmenistan is designed to open electronically at the tip to reveal a telescope pole.

The dome consists of six composite panels that open in sequence through the use of a hydraulic system. The panels are made from a sandwich of glass fibre and epoxy resin composite with a thermoplastic core. Each panel has the same painted finish. This material is strong, durable and extremely lightweight with as little as 10-15% of the weight of an equivalent dome built in concrete.

The dome was manufactured at PCT’s premises in Dubai and was then installed on site by the PCT team in less than three days.

A second Lotus Dome was installed by PCT in Dashoguz, Turkmenistan.
