Mechanical Discharge Bend Repair: UAE
The aim of the composite repair was to restore the integrity of the discharge bend having severe mechanical damage leading to through-wall scenario, the defect measured was 400mm X 10mm. This repair was engineered to ISO 24817:2015(E) standard.
Scope:

Composite Repair to reinstate integrity of 48” Discharge Bend.

Required repair design pressure 6 bar.

Required repair design temperature 60°C.

The thickness required for restoring the integrity was engineered in accordance with
ISO 24817:2015(E), 9 layers of PCR-GX.
Challenges:

Repair reinforcement by PCR-GX, 9 layers had to be done in a single day to achieve client strict deadline.

Precise compression was achieved never the less the complexity of the bend.
Actions:

Surface preparation was done to Swedish standard Sa 2.5.

PCR Metal putty was used to profile the defect and make it in line with the surface.

PCR epoxy adhesive primer was applied on the bend to enhance the adhesion between the substrate and PCR-GX layers.

Application of 9 layers PCR-GX using hand layup.
